Youth Environmental Stewardship Program:
The Delaware Center for Horticulture has launched a stewardship program which provides leadership, growth, and learning opportunities for youth to get involved in ‘greening’ the City of Wilmington. DCH offers many service activities for youth in different programs to allow them a chance to become more active and educated about their local environment.
By becoming a Youth Environmental Steward, you may participate in current DCH projects such as our community gardens, farm, and parks. Some activities Y.E.S. participants may be involved in include:
- Exploration of environmental issues through education, activism, and service.
- Planting trees, bulbs and herbaceous plants, as well as participating in park cleanups and workdays.
- Earn community service hours; you may use them to fulfill service requirement hours!
If you would like to become involved as an individual Youth Environmental Steward, or if your service group is looking for an activity, please contact Jacque Williamson, Parks Program Coordinator, for upcoming dates and available projects: jwilliamson@dehort.org OR 302-658-6262x124.
This is an ongoing program, supported by an Environmental Protection Agency grant. Though this program is funded by the EPA, it does not necessarily reflect the opinion of the EPA.
Youth Garden Tours and Worshops
Exploring a garden is great fun for kids, from our blooming flower beds to our bug-eating bog plants. A great trip to combine with a visit to the playground next door to DCH or a hike down Brandywine Parks trails to the river.
Tours and workshops are available for groups. For a request form and fee information, please contact Sarah Deacle at (302) 658-6262 ext. 117 or sbdeacle@dehort.org
