The Community Gallery at DCH offers a unique opportunity for area art galleries and artists to exhibit work with horticultural or environmental themes.
The Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and during evening and weekend events, except on holidays. Evening open houses are held in conjunction with the Wilmington Art Commission's Art Loop, held the first Friday of the month*.

Oe's landscapes honor nature and the natural world using symbolism and metaphor in both color and form. The content, emotionally and conceptually, lies in the objects depicted and also in the way the painting is painted. In trying to define a new range of beauty, Oe is attempting to broaded the range of the definition of the human spirit.

Diane's exhibit, "Inspired by Nature", includes watercolors, pastels, mixed media, originals and giclees. Local garden scenes and sites along the Brandywine will be featured along with floral paintings. Diane is inspired by textures and structures of the environment through which she conveys the warmth or coolness of light.

Trula Blize
Opening: April 9, 2010. 5:30 to 8:00 P.M.

The lush photographic work of artist Trula Blize becomes human emotional equivalents, each image a celebratory expression of a thought, a whisper, a song, a word spoken. This show, titled Intimate Celebrations, draws the viewer into a rich, full experience which transcends the visual. The poetic work allows for personal rejoicing with each shutter click. Trula sees promise and beauty in every leaf, every blossom, every curve of a hillside or clove of garlic. Her goal is to share the promise.

Harmony Weavers Guild
Opening: March 5, 2010. 5:30 to 8:00 P.M.

This exhibit showcases the talents of this 78 member guild of fiber artists and craftsmen. Many kinds of work will be displayed, including woven scarves, shawls, table runners, and wall hangings; felted hats and purses; handyed and handsewn silk jackets; handyed silk scarves; and beaded purses and necklaces.

Maria's exhibition titled, Fertile Ground celebrates nature in flower and landscape portraits. She uses mixed media in expressing these subjects: oil and watercolor monotypes, pastels and original digital compositions.

Siv Spurgeon is a representational watercolor artist. She draws much of her inspiration from the local gardens of Scott Arboretum, Longwood Gardens, and Chanticleer. She loves to capture the feeling of light and strives for strong composition in her paintings. She is especially intrigued by complex subject matters, such as the intricate pattern of petals and leaves.

Ikebana Exhibition – Midori Tanimune, Somu level teacher with the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, and her students will display colorful works of Ikebana floral art ranging from basic arrangements to free style creations. This floral art form depicts the arranger’s stylized vision of nature using sculptural elements of line, space and mass. All manner of flora, fresh as well as dried, may be combined with unconventional materials in Sogetsu arrangements making for very unique and varied compositions.

My work explores a world of shadow and light found in common objects. I think of my compositions as abstractions of shapes; pieces of paint arranged on canvas. I enjoy the exploration of endless color possibilities and opportunities to bring life to the work through exaggerated color.

Betty Ulrey’s paintings are vibrant colorful expressions of landscapes, flowers and still life. Many of the paintings on display are of northern Delaware and the Brandywine region. Regular art gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

January/February - The Studio Group, Inc.
The Studio Group, Inc. celebrates the beauty of the earth. Many flowers will be blooming on the walls of the DCH Art Gallery in January and February. Gardens, landscapes and other scenes of natural beauty will be shown in various media and styles to be enjoyed by all. The show opening will take place during Art Loop on Friday, February 6, 2009, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Proceeds from all sales benefit the programs at the Delaware Center for Horticulture. DCH Art Gallery hours are M-F, 9 to 5.

Sept/Oct Trifolia: Lenny Wilson, Susan Benarcik, and Barbie Brannock

“Trifolia” represents the work of three emerging artists who take their inspiration from nature. Susan Benarcik contemplates the passage of time through layering images of natural life forms, book page and other collected materials in a provocative series of collages. Barbie Brannock teaches visual expression for young children and employs printing and painting techniques in her vibrant imagery. Lenny Wilson combines shoemaking with horticulture and constructs one-of-a-kind, life size shoes made from plant material and leather.
This show runs through the end of October. Free and open to the public, Monday – Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.

Special Art Gallery Exhibit

Come in out of the heat and enjoy the stunning photography of Eric Zippe. This show includes images taken on the DCH grounds. Eric is generously donating 50% of his proceeds from photos that were taken at the Center. Additionally, anyone who purchases one of his large-format 20” x 30” prints will receive a complimentary membership or annual renewal to DCH.
